Italy June car sales down 19 pct, Fiat share 30 pct

MILAN, July 1 | Thu Jul 1, 2010 12:05pm EDT

MILAN, July 1 (Reuters) - Italy's new car sales fell 19.12 percent year-on-year in June, figures from the Transport Ministry published on Thursday showed, with Fiat's market share back above its target at 30.4 percent.

In May, Fiat's market share slipped under 30 percent for the first time since December 2005.

Italy's new car sales totalled 170,625 in June, as the loss of incentives to buy less-polluting cars -- a Fiat strength -- continues to take its toll.

Fiat's (FIA.MI) Italy June new car sales were down 27.5 percent year-on-year, giving it a market share of 30.4 percent, according to Reuters calculations.

Its market share in May was 29.84 percent.
