WASHINGTON, July 2 (Reuters) - A bipartisan group of 50 U.S. lawmakers called on Friday for an investigation into whether a Chinese investment in the U.S. steel sector posed a national security risk.

The group, in a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, said Anshan Iron and Steel Group ASISG.UL could gain "access to new steel production technologies and information regarding American national security infrastructure projects" as a result of its recently announced joint venture with the Steel Development Company.
