MEXICO CITY, July 7 | Wed Jul 7, 2010 11:13pm EDT

MEXICO CITY, July 7 (Reuters) - A tropical depression formed in the western Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, headed on a path towards the northern U.S.-Mexico border, which could further disrupt efforts to contain BP's (BP.L) massive oil spill off the Louisiana coast.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said a tropical storm warning had been issued along the south Texas coast and the government of Mexico issued a tropical storm warning along the coast of north-eastern Mexico. (Reporting by Mica Rosenberg; Editing by Eric Walsh)
