U.S. allows BP oil well pressure tests to continue

HOUSTON, July 16 | Fri Jul 16, 2010 4:55pm EDT

HOUSTON, July 16 (Reuters) - The U.S. government will allow crucial pressure tests on BP Plc's (BP.L) (BP.N) blown-out oil well to proceed on Friday evening as readings so far are inconclusive, the official in charge of overseeing the spill response said.

Pressures measured on the well are about 6,700 pounds per square inch and rising slowly, retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen said. (Reporting by Kristen Hays; editing by Chris Wilson)

If the tests are inconclusive the government is risking to much to allow them to continue. The prudent action is to return to collecting the oil and continue work on the relief wells.

Whatever happened to the seismic reading that were supposed to identify leaks, if any. Much of what BP has, and hasn’t done, after the abbreviated top kill has suggested that they knew of leaks. Doesn’t this test just make those leaks worse?
