TSMC says to spend $9.4 bln on new Taiwan plant

TAICHUNG, Taiwan, July 16 (Reuters) - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (2330.TW)(TSM.N), the world's largest contract chipmaker, said it will invest more than T$300 billion ($9.4 billion) in a new plant in Taiwan and add 8,000 jobs at the facility over the next few years.

TSMC Chairman and Chief Executive Morris Chang made the announcement on Friday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility in Taichung, central Taiwan. (US$1=T$32.1) (Reporting by Argin Chang; Editing by Chris Lewis)
