LOS ANGELES, July 22, (Reuters) - A lawsuit over the rights to the award-winning film "Precious" has been dismissed after Lionsgate Films and The Weinstein Co. reached an agreement, lawyers for Lionsgate said on Thursday.

Lionsgate attorney Matthew Gershman told Reuters that "the matter was amicably resolved to both parties mutual satisfaction." He declined to give details.

In February 2009, the two movie distributors went to war, suing each other over the rights to the film, whose full title is "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire."

The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning a best supporting actress Oscar for Mo'Nique and best adapted screenplay for screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher.

The harrowing tale of a pregnant, obese teen -- played by newcomer Gabourey Sidibe -- took $62.8 million at the boxoffice worldwide.
