NY "bouquet bandit" arrested for two bank robberies
NEW YORK |
NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York police arrested a man on Wednesday accused of robbing two banks -- with a bunch of flowers and a potted plant.
Edward Pemberton, 44, faces charges related to the robberies earlier this month at two different banks in the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea.
Dubbed the "bouquet bandit" by local news media, Pemberton is accused of pulling out a note demanding money -- first from under a potted plant and then from inside a bouquet of flowers -- and handing it to the bank tellers.
"He did odd jobs in the flower district. Very odd jobs," New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters.
An undisclosed amount of cash was handed over on both occasions. The bunch of flowers was left behind after the second robbery.
