BP has OK to prepare for "static kill" - BP exec
HOUSTON |
HOUSTON (Reuters) - BP Plc has received approval to prepare to help plug its Gulf of Mexico oil leak with a "static kill" in tandem with a relief well, but final approval is yet to come, a BP executive said on Thursday.
"It's sort of that one last check before you start to execute," Kent Wells, BP's senior vice president of exploration and production, told reporters at a briefing.
Retired U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, the top official overseeing the spill response, told BP it could prepare for the static kill, and he has final say to move ahead with it, Wells said.
