* Amends JP Morgan-led facility

* Says amendment to help potential Dollar Thrifty deal

July 27 (Reuters) - Car rental company Avis Budget Group Inc CAR.N said it amended a credit facility to secure financing for a potential offer for smaller rival Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc (DTG.N).

In a regulatory filing, Avis said it amended its JP Morgan-led facility to revise definition of consolidated EBITDA and exceptions to permit first-lien and second-lien secured debt to finance a possible acquisition of Dollar Thrifty.

Dollar Thrifty has already signed a merger agreement with Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ.N). But Avis has said it was interested in making a "substantially higher bid" for the company, and is yet to make an offer.

Banking sources had earlier told Reuters Avis was amending its JP Morgan-led credit facility and was seeking to increase the maximum amount of first-lien senior secured debt to $2 billion from $1.5 billion. [ID:nSGE66C0G2]

Shares of Avis closed at $10.92 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange. Dollar Thrifty shares were trading up at $48 after the bell. (Reporting by Divya Sharma, A.Ananthalakshmi in Bangalore, Editing by Saumyadeb Chakrabarty)
