UPDATE 1-Lam Research Q4 beats Wall Street

July 28 (Reuters) - Chip-gear maker Lam Research Corp (LRCX.O) posted fourth-quarter profit that blew past Wall Street expectations, driven partly by market-share gains.

For the fourth quarter ended June 27, the company, which supplies tools for etching circuits on to microchips, earned $140 million, or $1.10 per share, compared with a loss of $88.5 million, or 70 cents a share, a year ago.

Excluding items, the company earned $1.17 per share.

Revenue more than tripled to $695.3 million.

Analysts on average had expected the company to earn 97 cents a share, excluding items, on revenue of $656.5 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Shares of the Fremont, California-based company rose about 1 percent to $41.99 in trading after the bell. They closed at $41.66 Wednesday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Manasi Phadke in Bangalore; Editing by Unnikrishnan Nair)
