UPDATE 1-Silgan posts higher profit
* Q2 EPS 47 cents vs year-ago 45 cents
* Revenue up about 1 percent to $693.9 million
NEW YORK, July 28 (Reuters) - Packager Silgan Holdings Inc (SLGN.O) reported on Wednesday a higher second-quarter profit, helped by increased volumes at its closures business.
For the second-quarter, net income was $36.3 million, or 47 cents per share, compared with $34.8 million, or 45 cents per share, a year before.
Excluding one-time items, the company earned 48 cents per share. Analysts had expected earnings of 46 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Sales rose about a percent to $693.9 million, but fell short of estimates of $699 million.
The company, which also reaffirmed its full-year outlook, forecast third-quarter profit of between 85 cents per share and 95 cents per share. Analysts currently expect a profit of 96 cents per share for the period.
