UPDATE 1-Quest Software Q2 beats estimates, shares jump
* Q2 adj EPS $0.32 vs est $0.28

July 29 (Reuters) - Quest Software Inc (QSFT.O) posted a better-than-expected quarterly profit, helped by a 25 percent jump in license revenue, sending its shares up 6 percent in extended trade.
Separately, the enterprise systems management software maker said it will buy privately held Surgient Inc, a provider of cloud software, in a deal that is expected to close in the third quarter.
Second-quarter net profit for Quest Software came in at $17.4 million, or 19 cents a share, compared with $20.5 million, or 21 cents a share, a year ago.
Excluding items, the company earned 32 cents a share.
Revenue rose 13 percent to $186.1 million.
Analysts on average had expected earnings of 28 cents a share, excluding items, on revenue of $170.8 million according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
License revenue rose to $77.1 million, from $61.6 million.
Shares of the Aliso Viejo, California-based company were trading at $20.37 in extended trade, after closing at $19.25 Thursday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Shravya Jain in Bangalore; Editing by Unnikrishnan Nair)
