Aug 4 (Reuters) - Electronic broker BGC Partners Inc (BGCP.O) posted a better-than-expected quarterly profit, mainly helped by growth in its brokerage revenue, but forecast weak third-quarter revenue.
For the third quarter, the company expects earnings of $33 million to $37 million, on revenue of $295 million to $315 million.
Analysts on average expect the company to earn 14 cents a share, on revenue of $334.3 million, in the third quarter, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
For the second quarter, the company's net income was $19.6 million, or 9 cents a share, compared with $21.1 million, or 10 cents a share, a year ago.
Excluding items, distributable earnings were 17 cents a share.
Revenue rose 15 percent to $335.7 million.
Analysts on an average expected earnings of 15 cents a share, excluding items, on revenue of $339.5 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Revenue from brokerage rose 16 percent to $313.5 million, it said in a statement.
The company said the board raised its dividend by 55.6 percent to 14 cents a share on Aug. 2.
Shares of the New York-based company closed at $5.39 Tuesday on Nasdaq.
