Magnitude 7.0 quake strikes Papua New Guinea - USGS

WASHINGTON Aug 4 (Reuters) - A magnitude 7.0 quake shook Papua New Guinea's New Britain island, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Wednesday.

The quake struck at 8:01 a.m. on Thursday (2201 GMT on Wednesday). It was centered 90 miles (145 km) east of Kandrain and was 50.3 miles (81 km) deep.

The Pacific Tsunami Center said the quake did not trigger a tsunami warning. (Reporting by Sandra Maler, editing by Chris Wilson)
