UPDATE 1-United Online Q2 revenue down, shares fall

Aug 4 (Reuters) - United Online Inc (UNTD.O), which provides consumer products and services over the Internet, posted weaker-than-expected quarterly revenue due to a weak performance in its Classmates Media and Communications segments, sending shares down more than 6 percent.

Second-quarter net income applicable to common stockholders fell to $13.1 million, or 15 cents a share, compared with $17.7 million, or 21 cents a share a year ago.

Excluding items, the company earned 27 cents a share.

Revenue fell 7 percent to $242.7 million.

Revenue from its Classmates Media segment, which provides social networking and loyalty marketing services, fell 16 percent to $48.8 million. Revenue from its communications business fell 22 percent.

Analysts on an average were expecting earnings of 26 cents a share, on revenue of $249.7 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Shares of the Woodland Hills, California-based company were trading down 39 cents at $6 in post-market trade. They closed at $6.39 Wednesday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Sayantani Ghosh in Bangalore; Editing by Vyas Mohan)
