FRANKFURT, Aug 11 (Reuters) - E.ON (EONGn.DE), the world's largest utility, reported first-half operating profit that beat estimates due to better than expected earnings in its gas business and energy trading as well as in Britain and the Nordic countries.
Adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) in the first six months of the year rose 11 percent to 6.1 billion euros ($8.02 billion), the Duesseldorf, Germany-based company said on Wednesday. That is more than the 5.86 billion euro average of estimates from analysts in a Reuters poll.
"Particularly in view of the future earnings development in its gas business, E.ON continues to expect full year 2010 adjusted EBIT to increase by between 0 and 3 percent and adjusted net income to be at the prior-year level," E.ON said in a statement.
