SYDNEY Aug 11 (Reuters) - German Holger Osieck has been appointed the new coach of the Australian national team, the Football Federation Australia (FFA) said on Wednesday.

Former Canada coach Osieck, who was an assistant to Franz Beckenbauer when Germany won the 1990 World Cup, replaces Dutchman Pim Verbeek who vacated the post after this year's finals in South Africa.
