Brother of Manila bus gunman asks for deadline extension

MANILA Aug 23 (Reuters) - A brother of a heavily armed policeman dismissed from the service has asked him for an extension of 30 minutes against a 3 p.m. [0700 GMT] deadline he set.

Gregorio Mendoza, a senior police officer, was overheard by reporters while talking by mobile phone to his brother who has taken mostly foreigners hostage aboard a tourist bus in central Manila.
