Obama: no victory lap as US ends combat mission in Iraq

FORT BLISS, Texas | Tue Aug 31, 2010 1:08pm EDT

FORT BLISS, Texas Aug 31 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that there was still much work to be done in Iraq, as the United States ends its combat mission in the country that it invaded in 2003.

"It is not going to be a victory lap. It is not going to be self-congratulatory," said Obama, describing an Oval Office address to the nation that he will make later on Tuesday to mark the milestone in the U.S. mission in Iraq.
