Bharti says unaware of any possible Vodafone stake sale

NEW DELHI, Sept 1 | Wed Sep 1, 2010 7:02am EDT

NEW DELHI, Sept 1 (Reuters) - The chairman of Bharti Airtel (BRTI.BO), India's top mobile operator, said on Wednesday he had not heard of any plans that British cellular giant Vodafone (VOD.L) may have of selling its 4.4 percent stake in the Indian firm.

The Business Standard newspaper in late July reported that Vodafone might sell its holding in Bharti.

"I have not heard anything," Bharti Chairman Sunil Mittal said when asked by reporters whether Vodafone was selling its stake in the firm. (Reporting by Devidutta Tripathy, writing by Tony Munroe; Editing by Jui Chakravorty)
