CANBERRA (Reuters) - A deal with Australia's Greens party to support ruling Labor in trying to form a minority government would not lead to changes in a planned profits-based tax on mining, Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Wednesday.

"Our election commitments are our election commitments. In the days since the election I've been asked will you change the Minerals Resource Rent Tax, and the answer of course is no," Gillard told reporters.

Gillard's Labor and Tony Abbott's conservative opposition are wrangling to secure support from four independent lawmakers wielding the balance of power after inconclusive elections on August 21.
