AIG files application to list AIA - source

HONG KONG, Sept 2 (Reuters) - American International Group Inc (AIG.N) has filed an application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange seeking approval to list its Asian life insurance business, AIA Group Ltd, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday.
The application is the first concrete step by AIG towards an initial public offering of AIA, which would be expected to raise about $15 billion.
