Moody's may upgrade Thai, Vietnam outlooks by year-end

BANGKOK, Sept 2 | Thu Sep 2, 2010 12:57am EDT

BANGKOK, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Moody's Investors Service intends to decide by the end of the year whether to upgrade the credit-rating outlooks of Thailand and Vietnam, a senior Moody's official said on Thursday.

Aninda Mitra, vice president and senior analyst at Moody's sovereign risk unit, made the comment during a seminar in Bangkok.

In May, Moody's maintained its negative outlook on Thailand's "Baa1" rating but said political unrest, which led to 91 deaths and disrupted life in the capital in April and May, had not at that point damaged core credit fundamentals to the extent that more drastic rating action was warranted.
