SYDNEY (Reuters) - Former Masters champion Fred Couples has been confirmed to play the Australian Open golf tournament.

The 50-year-old Couples, who won the Green Jacket at Augusta National in 1992, will join champion Adam Scott of Australia, five-time winner Greg Norman, Geoff Ogilvy and John Daly for the December 2-5 tournament at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney.

"I am very much looking forward to playing in the Australian Open," Couples said in a statement.

"I have not been to Sydney for some time and look forward to visiting this magnificent city once again."

Couples has been playing on the Champions Tour for the first time this year, winning three tournaments.

The $1.3 million Australian Open is the penultimate stop on the OneAsia tour, which includes tournaments in China, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and Australia.

Scott won the tournament last year by five shots over compatriot Stuart Appleby at the New South Wales Golf Club.
