Singapore to allow 4th mobile phone operator-report

SINGAPORE, Sept 7 | Mon Sep 6, 2010 7:50pm EDT

SINGAPORE, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Singapore will auction another third-generation (3G) spectrum in November, paving the way for a fourth mobile phone operator in the city-state, the Business Times reported on Tuesday.

The newspaper said details of the auction were published on the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore's website on Friday.

The decision to allow a fourth operator met with strong opposition from the city-state's three mobile phone operators -- Singapore Telecommunications (STEL.SI), StarHub (STAR.SI) and M1 (MONE.SI) - when the idea was mooted in March this year, the paper added.
