Thai PTT says to bid for Carrefour's Thai assets

BANGKOK, Sept 8 | Wed Sep 8, 2010 4:47am EDT

BANGKOK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Thailand's top energy firm, PTT Pcl PTT.BK, said it had put in a bid to buy the Thai operations of French retailer Carrefour (CARR.PA), which analysts expect to fetch a price of about $600 million.

PTT has used a subsidiary to join the first round of bidding, which is part of a plan to expand its retail business, Chief Executive Prasert Bunsumpun told reporters on Wednesday.

PTT could seek partners to join forces in the retail business if the Carrefour bid succeeds, he said. (Editing by Alan Raybould)
