TOKYO, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda said on Wednesday he was watching currency moves with great interest and the government would take decisive steps if necessary.

"I am watching moves with great interest today," Noda told reporters when asked about the yen's fresh 15-year high of 83.51 yen JPY= against the dollar.

"Government policy has been mapped out and we will take decisive steps if necessary, and I believe we have gained an understanding about what those decisive steps are," Noda said. (Reporting by Tetsushi Kajimoto; Editing by Joseph Radford)
