US STOCKS SNAPSHOT-Wall St adds to gains, Apple leads Nasdaq

NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks extended gains on Wednesday and the Nasdaq Composite rose 1 percent, led by gains in Apple Inc (AAPL.O) after a brokerage upgrade.

The broader market was boosted by gains in energy and materials stocks as the U.S. dollar weakened.

The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI gained 69.40 points, or 0.67 percent, to 10,410.09. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX gained 8.44 points, or 0.77 percent, to 1,100.28. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC gained 20.74 points, or 0.94 percent, to 2,229.63.
