US says no information on Iran releasing American

WASHINGTON, Sept 9 | Thu Sep 9, 2010 1:43pm EDT

WASHINGTON, Sept 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department said on Thursday it had no information about Iran's reported plan to free one of three detained U.S. citizens, but said any release would be "terrific news".

"We don't know, frankly, what Iran is contemplating at this point," State Department spokesman Mark Toner said, adding that the United States has repeatedly pressed Iran to release all three Americans, who were detained near Iran's border with Iraq at the end of July 2009.
