NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New York imam at the center of a controversy over a planned Islamic cultural center near the World Trade Center has not agreed to move the center to a less controversial site, sources close to the imam told Reuters on Thursday.

The sources denied the assertion of a fundamentalist Christian pastor in Florida that an agreement had been reached to move the project. Terry Jones made the claim in a televised news conference, saying he called off plans to burn copies of the Koran on Saturday's ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

"There has been no agreement. There have been no discussions with this pastor," said one of the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
