UPDATE 1-Verizon Wireless names Andrew Davies CFO

NEW YORK, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless said on Thursday its next Chief Financial Officer would be Andrew Davies, who is moving from the Indian unit of Vodafone Group Plc (VOD.L), 45 percent owner of the biggest US mobile service.

When he takes on the job on November 15, Davies will be replacing John Townsend, who was named regional CFO for Vodafone's European operations after more than five years in the Verizon Wireless job.

Davies has worked at Vodafone since September 2003 in finance roles at the company's Turkey, Japan and U.K. business.

Verizon Communications (VZ.N) owns 55 percent in Verizon Wireless. Shares in Verizon Communications were up 33 cents or 1 percent at $30.79 on the New York Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Sinead Carew; editing by Derek Caney)
