U.S. fiscal 2010 budget narrows to $1.294 trillion

WASHINGTON Oct 15 (Reuters) - The U.S. budget deficit for fiscal 2010 narrowed to $1.294 trillion from $1.416 trillion in 2009, the U.S. Department of Treasury said on Friday.

The slight reduction was helped by higher tax revenues from corporations and an increase in receipts from the Federal Reserve, the Treasury said. The 2010 fiscal year ended on Sept. 30.

The U.S. budget gap in September totaled $34.49 billion, compared to a $45.21 billion gap in September 2009. It was the 24th straight monthly deficit, the Treasury said.
