TOKYO Nov 1 (Reuters) - Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara will summon the Russian ambassador to Japan to protest President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to a disputed island, Jiji news agency quoted a senior Japanese foreign ministry official as saying.

Prime Minister Naoto Kan told a parliament committee that the Russian president's visit to a disputed island was "regrettable", as a fresh territorial row added to his headaches, with Tokyo still struggling to repair strained ties with China.
