Toddler dies at Virginia mall, grandmother charged
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A 2-year-old girl died on Tuesday after being thrown off a balcony at a shopping mall in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, and her grandmother faces charges over her death, police said.
The child, Angelyn Ogdoc, fell from a sixth-floor walkway at Tysons Corner Center on Monday evening and died of her injuries at a local hospital early on Tuesday, Fairfax County Police said.
The child's grandmother, Carmela Dela Rosa, 50, was walking out of the mall to a parking garage with Ogdoc and other family members when she picked up the girl and allegedly threw her over the edge of the walkway, police said. The motive was unknown, they said.
Dela Rosa was charged with aggravated malicious wounding but those charges may be upgraded to murder, police said.
