US Republicans to block BABS in any tax deal-aide

WASHINGTON | Tue Dec 7, 2010 10:45am EST

WASHINGTON Dec 7 (Reuters) - Congressional Republicans will block any inclusion of Build America Bonds in the tax deal they clinched with President Barack Obama, a Republican aide said on Tuesday.

A dispute over the fate of the program popular with states and other municipal bond issuers underscores the tension between Republicans and Democrats, who feel they were left out of the deal extending Bush era tax cuts that Obama spelled out on Monday night.

"We have a very firm line on BABS -- we are not going to allow them to be included," a congressional Republican aide said. (Reporting by Kim Dixon; Editing by Anthony Boadle)
