DALLAS (Reuters) - Dallas Mavericks forward Caron Butler has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday.

Butler suffered the injury, a rupture to his right patellar tendon, in Saturday's 99-87 loss to Milwaukee.

"He is expected to miss the remainder of the season," said a statement from the Mavericks, who are in second place in the Western Conference with a 25-8 record.

Butler was averaging 15 points and 4.1 rebounds in 29 games this season, his ninth in the NBA.

The 30-year-old, who has played with Miami, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Washington Wizards, was an All-Star in 2007 and 2008.
