UPDATE 1-Energy Fuels gets license for Pinon Ridge; shares jump
* Gets radioactive materials license from state of Colorado
* Shares jump 25 pct
Jan 6 (Reuters) - Uranium and vanadium mineral development company Energy Fuels Inc (EFR.TO) said it was granted a radioactive materials license for its Pinon Ridge mill by Colorado regulators, sending its shares up to a 52-week high.
The license approval is the most significant hurdle to be completed before the company will be allowed to build and operate the first conventional uranium mill to be constructed in the United States in 30 years.
The company -- which has two fully permitted nearby uranium mines, the Energy Queen and the Whirlwind -- said when constructed, the Pinon Ridge mill will create 85 direct jobs at the site.
Another 230 new jobs will be created in mining, transportation, and support services, Energy Fuels said.
"The company now has a clear pathway to new conventional uranium production in the United States and we will be shifting our focus to project financing, product sales and long-term strategic relationships with potential uranium buyers," CEO Steve Antony said in a statement.
The company's shares, which have risen about 5-fold in value since naming a new CEO in April, were up 25 percent at C$1.34 on Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
