Philly Fed revises Dec factory activity lower
NEW YORK |
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Factory activity growth in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region accelerated less in December than originally reported, the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank said on Thursday.
Annual revisions showed the Fed's factory activity index in December was at 20.8, compared with an originally reported 24.3. A reading above zero indicates growth in the region's manufacturing sector.
The survey, covering eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware, is monitored as an early indicator of the health of the U.S. manufacturing sector.
The revisions showed the employment gauge came in at 4.3 versus the originally reported 5.1. The downward revision was consistent with recent data showing persistent weakness in the jobs market.
The new orders index was revised down to 10.6 from 14.6, while December's prices paid measure was now 47.9 versus 51.2.
The six-month business conditions index was revised up to 55.4 from 50.5.
