BlueNext says suspended all carbon trading

LONDON | Wed Jan 19, 2011 11:37am EST

LONDON (Reuters) - BlueNext has suspended all carbon emissions permit trading from 11 a.m. EST due to missing permits from the Czech Republic and Romanian carbon registries, the French spot emissions exchange said on Wednesday.

The exchange earlier suspended delivery and payments of carbon permits while it undertook security measures.

"(...) There was strong demand to filter out the allegedly stolen EUAs and place them into isolation," the exchange said in a statement to members.

"We are waiting to receive the confirmed list of the contract serial numbers that have been called into question before we can put a filter in place. In the meantime we have decided to suspend all trading from this time."

The exchange is consulting with the EU Commission and French government about further action, it added.
