Egypt Internet users report major network disruptions

CAIRO | Thu Jan 27, 2011 6:44pm EST

CAIRO Jan 28 (Reuters) - Web users in Egypt reported major disruptions to domestic networks on Friday, with many unable to access the Internet and mobile text messaging services in the capital Cairo.

A top official at the state telecoms regulator, contacted by Reuters early on Friday, declined to comment on the matter.

In Cairo, some residents said they had no access to the Internet altogether, while others said disruptions were limited to social networking websites such as Facebook. Others said they were unable to send mobile text messages.

Karim Haggag, a spokesman for the Egyptian embassy in Washington, said the Egyptian prime minister's office had issued a statement denying Facebook and Twitter have been shut down. (Reporting by Patrick Werr and Shaimaa Fayed; Writing by Maria Golovnina; editing by David Stamp)

IT is true, I can not reach my family there except by the phone service which is very slow (I live in Canada). The internet and mobile text messaging are both blocked and I think the phones will be blocked too soon. all the websites that used to publish the protests news are now blocked and we have not way to find out what is happening or will happen during the peaceful demonstrations of tomorrow.
It is obvious the government is lying as usual, and they it appears that they are going to use violence against the protesters tomorrow who are not supporting or representing anyone but themselves, they are not supporting the Brotherhood or El Baradei, they are just expressing their needs.
