NEW YORK Jan 27 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N) plans to promote its Asia head to lead the investment bank's emerging markets business globally, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

J. Michael Evans will continue as chairman of Goldman's operations in Asia, the paper reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

Goldman is naming David Ryan and Yusuf Alireza co-presidents of its business in Asia outside Japan, the paper said.

Goldman Sachs has been expanding in emerging markets to offset slower growth and choppy markets in the United States, the paper reported.

As co-head of Goldman's business standards committee, he helped craft recommendations for the bank to follow to reduce conflicts and better communicate with clients. [ID:nN11116950]
