Barclays says shuts bank branches in Egypt

LONDON Jan 31 (Reuters) - British bank Barclays (BARC.L) said on Monday that its network of branches in Egypt was closed, following advice from the Egyptian central bank in the wake of ongoing political unrest in the country.

"Our network in Egypt is currently closed, following advice from the central bank in Egypt," said a London-based spokesman.

Barclays has 65 branches in Egypt and the spokesman said the bank was closely monitoring the situation in the country.
