SAN DIEGO, California (Reuters) - A Taxi cab plowed into a crowd of people on a downtown San Diego sidewalk after they left a bar early Saturday morning, injuring 25 people, seven of them critically, authorities said.

Among the critically injured was a woman whose leg was severed when the cab crushed her against the building, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque said.

Several people in the crowd pulled the driver out of his cab and beat him, Luque said. The cab driver was also taken to the hospital with a broken nose and other injuries.

About 55 paramedics, fire-rescue team members and police remained on the scene for more than four hours after the carnage in front of Stingaree, a popular club in the Gaslamp district.

Two of the injured declined transportation to the eight local hospitals where the remaining 23 and the cab driver were taken, Luque said.

It was not immediately clear why the cab driver veered off the road into the crowd, although Luque said that the driver was not drunk.

What the Hell is wrong with these people?

If it was intentional, I’m sure he would have been going faster.
