Prince William, Kate to visit Canada post-wedding
OTTAWA |
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Prince William and Kate Middleton will visit Canada from June 30 to July 8 on their first official foreign trip as a married couple, British and Canadian officials said Wednesday.
The tour will include the provinces of Alberta, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, the Canadian capital Ottawa as well as the Northwest Territories.
"Their decision to come to Canada first is a testament to our country's very close relationship with the Royal Family," Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a statement.
Queen Elizabeth, who is Canada's head of state, visited in 2010. Middleton will marry the second-in-line to the British throne on April 29 at Westminster Abbey in London.
A spokesman for William said the prince was keen to visit Canada himself and to show his new wife a country close to his family's heart.
