UPDATE 1-Magnitude quake 5.2 hits Japan, no damage reported

WASHINGTON Feb 26 (Reuters) - A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck the island of Honshu in Japan on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, but there were no reports of injuries or damage.

The quake, centered 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Kanazawa, occurred at 20:38 GMT Saturday (05:38 local time Sunday) at a depth of 2.4 miles (3 km) the USGS said.

Japan is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries, with a tremor occurring at least every five minutes.

Located in the "Ring of Fire" arc of volcanoes and oceanic trenches partly encircling the Pacific Basin, the country accounts for about 20 percent of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or greater. (Reporting by World Desk; Additional reporting by Linda Sieg in Tokyo; Editing by Jon Boyle)
