IKEA recalls coffee/tea makers over cut and burn risk: government
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Consumers should immediately stop using IKEA FORSTA coffee/tea makers which can break unexpectedly, causing burn and laceration hazards, the U.S. and Canadian governments said on Thursday.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada said in a joint statement that pressure from the metal pot holder against the coffee and tea maker can cause the glass to break while in use.
About 94,000 of the press pots with supplier number 20325 were sold in the United States and 34,000 in Canada.
IKEA, which has recalled the makers voluntarily, has only received one report of a pot breaking in the United States but the multinational firm has received 19 reports from other countries, 13 of which resulted in injury, the statement said.
The coffee and tea makers were sold from January 2010 through December 2010 for between $6 and $10 at IKEA stores throughout North America.
Consumers should return their devices to an IKEA store for a full refund.
