SANAA, March 6 (Reuters) - Suspected al Qaeda militants killed four Yemeni police officers in a shooting ambush of their vehicle in the flashpoint Maarib province, east of the capital Sanaa, a local official said on Sunday.

Yemen is a key ally of the United States against a resurgent regional al Qaeda arm that has based itself in the impoverished Arabian Peninsula state. The official said the vehicle had been delivering supplies including food and drink to forces in the city of Maarib when the attack occured. (Reporting by Mohamed Sudam; Writing by Cynthia Johnston)
