Tokyo Elec: want military chopper to try again to douse reactor
March 17 (Reuters) - Tokyo Electric Power Co said on Thursday it wants a military helicopter to try again to pour water on a quake-hit nuclear reactor in northern Japan, after an earlier attempt failed due to high radiation levels.
A Tokyo Electric official said he was not sure whether the Japanese military would make another attempt to cool down the plant using a helicopter, but "We want (the military) to make another attempt on March 17."
Kyodo news agency said earlier, quoting Defence Minister Toshimi Kitazawa, that a helicopter was unable to drop water to cool the reactor probably because of the high radiation.
A massive earthquake and tsunami on Friday crippled cooling functions at the Tokyo Electric's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, making it difficult for the operator to control heat and pressure inside.
