Libya no-fly zone to soon reach 1,000 km-general

WASHINGTON, March 21 | Mon Mar 21, 2011 12:15pm EDT

WASHINGTON, March 21 (Reuters) - The U.N.-approved no-fly zone over Libya is expanding and will soon cover a 1,000-km area as aircraft from additional coalition countries arrive in the region, the head of U.S. Africa Command said on Monday.

U.S. Army General Carter Ham told a Pentagon briefing that coalition air forces were continuing to fly missions to sustain the no-fly zone and that Libyan ground forces were moving south from rebel-held Benghazi showing "little will or capability" to operate.

I don’t see how “no-fly” translates into cruise missiles targeting a wide range of military targets including Qaddafi, I didn’t even know he could fly. Can someone explain?

A “1000 km area” makes absolutely no mathematical sense. Is this a 1000 square km area? Is it an undetermined area that stretches 1000km in dimension? 1000 sq. km doesn’t seem like much… only about 32km x 32km.

The life expectancy of the six sons of Gadhafi is short, they will suffer for the sins of their father. But Gadhafi had a long and happy life, he will loudly praise his sky god before being hung.
