(Reuters) - A U.S. Food and Drug Administration chemist was arrested on Tuesday on charges of using inside information from the agency to profit from drug approval decisions.

Below are details of transactions made by Cheng Yi Liang and his son to reap illegal profits or to avoid losses totaling around $3.6 million.

2011

-- Avoided a loss of $60,047 in Mannkind Corp shares on January 4, 2011. The FDA rejected the company's diabetes device on January 19.

-- Made a profit of $379,602 from Clinical Data Inc shares during January 6-21, 2011. The FDA approved the company's antidepressant on January 21.

2010

-- Made a profit of $119,643 from Somaxon Pharmaceuticals Inc shares on March 18, 2010. The FDA approved the drugmaker's insomnia drug on the same day.

-- Made a profit of $18,868 from Pozen Inc shares during Apr. 26-30, 2010. The FDA approved Pozen's pain drug on April 30.

-- Made a profit of $85,428 from Momenta Pharmaceuticals Inc shares on July 20, 2010. The FDA approved the company's copycat version of the widely-used Sanofi-Aventis SA blood clot drug Lovenox on July 23.

2009

-- Made a profit of $1,040,809 from Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc shares during March 30-April 29, 2009. The FDA approved Vanda's schizophrenia drug on May 6.

-- Made a profit of $26,820 from Santarus Inc shares during November 18-19, 2009. The FDA approved an over-the-counter version of the company's heartburn drug on December 1.

-- Made a profit of $9,287 from Santarus shares during December 3-4, 2009. The FDA approved another version of the heartburn drug on December 4.

2008

-- Made a profit of $5,500 from Progenics Pharmaceuticals Inc shares, on January 9, 2008, The FDA delayed a review of the company's drug to treat opioid-induced constipation on January 10.

-- Made a profit of $267,047 from Middlebrook shares during January 10-23, 2008. The FDA approved its strep throat drug on January 24.

-- Made a profit of $88,470 from Spectrum Pharmaceuticals Inc shares during February 27-March 7, 2008. The FDA approved the company's bone cancer drug on March 7.

-- Made a profit of $103,607 from CV Therapeutics shares during March 14-27, 2008. The FDA approved its heart imaging agent on April 10.

-- Made a profit of $75,007 from Pozen shares on April 15, 2008. The FDA approved Pozen's migraine drug on April 15.

-- Made a profit of $463,761 from Progenics shares during April 8-23, 2008. The FDA approved its bowel drug on April 24.

-- Made a profit of $46,485 in Adolor Corp shares during May 2-20, 2008. The FDA approved its bowel drug on May 20.

-- Made a profit of $88,828 from Vanda shares during June 24-July 25, 2008. The FDA rejected Vanda's drug in a not-approvable letter on July 28.

-- Made a profit of $22,910 from Novadel shares during November 28-December 19, 2008. The FDA approved its insomnia drug on December 22.

-- Made a profit of $81,994 from Epix shares during November 24-December 18, 2008. The FDA approved Epix's imaging agent on December 22.

-- Made a profit of $42,698 from Cornerstone Therapeutics Inc shares during April 19-May 14, 2007. The FDA decision was announced on May 14.

-- Made a profit of $50,750 from Cornerstone shares during May 15-30, 2007. The FDA decision was announced on May 31.

-- Made a profit of $150,324 from Encysive shares during June 1-14, 2007. The FDA declined to approve its drug Thelin as a treatment for a life-threatening lung disease on June 15.

-- Avoided a loss of $174,409 from Pozen shares on August 1, 2007. The FDA delayed approval of the company's experimental migraine drug on August 2.

-- Made a profit of $1,324 from Anesiva Inc shares during August 2-16, 2007. The FDA approved its local anesthetic for children on August 17.

-- Made a profit of $130,675 from Momenta shares on November 5, 2007. The FDA rejected Momenta's generic version of Sanofi's Lovenox on November 6.

-- Made a profit of $20,058 from Pharmacyclics Inc shares during December 20-21, 2007. The FDA rejected its cancer drug on December 21.

-- Made a profit of $15,700 from Connetics shares during September 8-19, 2006. The FDA decision was announced on September 19.
